On October 8th, 2011, Abdul Nabi Shaheen reported for gulfnews.com on how Saudi Arabia is under cyberattack by forces aimed at instigating violence and religious secretarianism. Saudi officials stated that external forces are using over 6,000 websites to spread extremism and false reports for the purposes of religious subversion and instigation of violence. Saudi officials went on to say that about 98% of the perpetrators were not Saudi; after tracking down their IDs, most of the perpetrators came from either Iran or Iraq. The websites at issue called for Saudi citizens to use violence in the Shiite-dominated eastern region of Qateef.
