Of course, DHS/FBI recently told us that the water pump failure in Illinois was not a cyberattack. However, one question still bothered me: how and why was there a Russian IP address involved? Well, Ellen Nakashima just answered that question for the Washington Post. Nakashima reported that a contractor for the plant accessed the plant's network through remote access while he was on business in Russia. Probably not a good idea to remotely access a water plant in a foreign country, but at least the Russians aren't attacking our water pumps…
