On Dec. 25th, 2011, Ben Farmer reported for the Telegraph that the US Congress wants to block Taliban tweets that boast of attacks on ISAF coalition soldiers in Afghanistan. The move seems to be spearheaded by Sen. Joe Lieberman, Chair of the Senate Homeland Committee.
According to the article, the offending tweets usually speak to the "deaths of "cowardly invaders" and "puppet" Afghan government forces." Humorously, the Taliban and ISAF officials often have Twitter exchanges. One ISAF response to a Taliban tweet can be seen below:
"@ABalkhi – Dumb dumb? How the dialogue elevates. Look: Nobody takes you seriously. Everything you type is wrong. Just. Stop."
You can find the rest of the exchange in this CNN article.
As for the blocking of Taliban tweets, the article notes that a Twitter official declined to comment, but may still allow the tweets because the US State Department has yet to list the Taliban as a terrorist organization.
