Congress to Resume SOPA Hearings Next Week: PCWorld

On Dec. 17th, 2011, Grant Gross wrote for PCWorld on the status of the controversial SOPA bill currently sitting in the House Judiciary Committee.  There were reports on Friday that SOPA hearings would be postponed until January.  However,  Rep. Lamar Smith (SOPA's sponsor) decided to schedule a continuation of the markup hearing this Wednesday, Dec. 21st.  The article noted that many members of the committee will likely be out of town for the holidays.

Rep. Smith is apparently considering to hold a hearing where experts can testify on SOPA's impact on cybersecurity.  The committee has yet to hear any testimony from cyber experts on SOPA's possible impact.

The article explained that the committee still has to consider about 30 amendments to the legislation.  The committee previously voted down about 20 amendments that were designed to moderate the legislation's most controversial provisions.
