New House Cybersecurity Bill: The Hill

On Dec. 16th, 2011, Gautham Nagesh reported for The Hill on how a new cybsecurity bill has been introduced in the House.  According to the article, the Promoting and Enhancing Cybersecurity and Information Sharing Effectiveness (PrECISE Act) will "encourage private firms to share information on cyber threats" but will not mandate security standards.  The PrECISE Act has been offered by the House GOP, and follows the GOP's approach of avoiding "burdensome regulatory approaches."  Here's a previous blog post about some of the bill's details.

The PrECISE Act is not drastically different than similar legislation like the Rogers-Ruppersberger bill.  However, the PrECISE Act would focus cybersecurity responsibility with DHS by "requiring DHS to evaluate cybersecurity risks for critical infrastructure firms and determine the best way to mitigate them" and establish a National Cyber Clearinghouse.
