On March 12th, 2012, Phil Muncaster reported for The Register on how hackers have targeted Admiral James Stavridis, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander of Europe. According to the article, hackers have opened several fake Facebook accounts in the Admiral's name; the fake pages would trick the Admiral's family, friends, and colleagues into friending the account and giving away his personal secrets. Hackers would then use those secrets to guess passwords and thereby gain access to NATO's systems. This is an excellent example of social engineering. The article cited several "security sources" who pointed the finger at China.
