On April 16th, 2012, Nick Hopkins wrote for The Guardian on the relationship between the U.S. and China. The article was part of The Guardian's "Battle for the internet" series. Interestingly, the article claimed that the U.S. and China have conducted two exercises designed to "help prevent a sudden military escalation between the sides . . . ."
However, China has remained belligerent. The article quoted James Lewis, CSIS, as saying that "China has come to the conclusion that the power relationship has changed . . . in a way that favours them . . . [the PLA] see the US as a target . . . [t]hey think the US is in decline."
The first exercise saw how both sides would respond to a Stuxnet-like attack; that simulation went well. The second exercise explored how each country would respond to a cyberattack from the other; that simulation didn't go so well.
One point that grabbed my attention: James Lewis said that President Obama may be preparing a more aggressive stance towards Chinese cyber-espionage.
There's a lot more to the Guardian article, you can find it here.
