Add another nation-state espionage malware to the list. Kim Zetter reported for Wired on miniFlame, a “high-precision, surgical attack tool” malware that has been found trolling around Iran and Lebanon. As you could probably guess, miniFlame has connections to the previously discovered espionage malware Flame, and also is related to Gauss.
I shall call him . . . miniFlame.
According to the article, MiniFlame allows for direct control of “very select, high-profile” infected systems, whereas Flame/Gauss did not. Zetter quoted Eugene Kaspersky of Kaspersky Lab: “With Flame, Gauss, and miniFlame, we have probably only scratched [the] surface of the massive cyber-spy operations ongoing in the Middle East . . ..”
