Cybersecurity debate moves to Senate: The Hill/HuffPo

I didn’t put anything up on the blog, but you probably already know that CISPA passed in the House on Thursday.  Check out this Huffington Post article by Zach Carter & Sabrina Siddiqui for coverage; interestingly, the bill passed with a 288 to 127 margin, indicating that the bill had support from a number of Democrat representatives.

Now on to the Senate.  Jennifer Martinez reported for The Hill on what we’re likely to see.  Unfortunately, it looks messy.  Martinez wrote that the Senate Homeland Security, Commerce, and Intelligence Committees “are each drafting their own proposals.  . . .”  Moreover, the Obama administration’s cyber executive order may throw a wrench in things:

Another issue at play for the Senate is the administration’s implementation of the cybersecurity executive order that President Obama signed earlier this year. The success of its implementation could affect what kind of proposal comes out of the Senate and whether that body intends to put forward one large bill or move a set of smaller ones, observers say.

Then there’s the veto threat.
